EZETIMED 10 (Ezetimibe) is a medicine used to lower cholesterol in people who have high blood cholesterol. Ezetimibe works by reducing the amount of cholesterol your body absorbs from your intestines. High cholesterol can cause fatty deposits to form in your blood vessels which increases your risk of heart disease. Ezetimibe is used in patients who cannot control their cholesterol levels by diet and exercise alone. EZETIMED 10 is manufactured as ezetimibe 10mg tablets that contain 10mg of ezetimibe and excipients.
Ezetimibe is a medication used to lower the levels of cholesterol in the body. It works by targeting a specific protein, the NPC1l1 protein which is involved in transporting cholesterol from the intestines into the blood. Ezetimibe selectively blocks this protein so that cholesterol cannot be absorbed from the intestine. When this happens, there is a significant reduction in the amount of cholesterol available to the liver cells. This forces the liver to absorb more cholesterol already present in the bloodstream, effectively reducing the level of circulating cholesterol. It has an added advantage that it does not affect the uptake of fat-soluble vitamins. It has a half-life of 22 hours.
